Gym and Chocolate?
Yes, I know what your thinking. Can we really enjoy both the gym and chocolate? Doesn’t one counteract the other? What’s the point in going to the gym if I’m just coming home to eat, drink and slather myself in all things cocoa?
Well, I’m a new blogger and I am here to uncover the fads in the fitness world, blog about those things we women love most… leggings and also enjoy the most indulgent thing in life chocolate! Realising we can love chocolate without letting it throw us off the wagon and without guilt consuming us has been the most empowering moment of my life. There is absolutely zero room for body shaming here!!! The cocoa bean is the basis of chocolate and I believe we can love it. Life is all about balance and in this blog the balance is … gym and cocoa.
Who am I?
I am a NEARLY 30-year-old Yorkshire girl currently living in Warwickshire. I married a Geordie and it wouldn’t be long until we are living back in the North East I am sure. We moved here for my “proper job” which is an animator …. No, I do not animate Mickey Mouse. It’s much more corporate than that but I love it. Like any creative though, I have lots of scratches to itch and one of them was blogging.
Apart from eating lots of chocolate and walking my beautiful longhaired miniature dachshunds Tally and new addition Maggie Mae, I really enjoy the gym, trail running and fitness challenges. But have noticed that us women have a very strange relationship to fitness and many of my friends have reached out to me to ask how I get motivated, how I find out about different classes or ask what they are like? This really resonated with me for a long time and I realised I wanted to create this blog to help answer some of those questions.
I haven’t always been a fitness fanatic though, so I understand the challenges of getting motivated and picking the right type of exercise for you. 5 years ago I had a very special wedding to go to and hated the sight of myself in any outfit I tried to pick for the special day. I booked myself into a very intense 6 weeks body boot camp and although I admit this was because I wanted to lose weight, by the end of the 6 weeks, the weight I had lost paled into significance next to the self-confidence and new-found love of movement I had found.
There is so much out there, you don’t have to run if you hate it. You don’t have to force yourself to go to a Zumba class if it makes you feel ridiculous. Whatever shape, size or age you are there is a form of fitness you can get the hang of that could change your relationship with the dreaded word … EXERCISE!
Plus remember this blog is not only about exercise, it is about cocoa too and I hope you will join me on my travels to find beautiful artisan chocolates, delicious cups of warm cocoa and decadent dark chocolate desserts.
Thank you so much for joing me
Aka Gym and Cocoa
P.s I’m dyslexic so expect randomly put together sentences and very imaginative spellings.
